Geometric tattooing is the most math-honest style on the machine — every line either lines up or it does not. At Inkspace, we draw geometric work freehand on the skin after the initial stencil so the design follows the actual contour of your body, not a flat reference.
What geometric tattoos are
Geometric tattoos are built from line, shape, and the relationships between them. The category covers sacred geometry, mandalas, line-only illustration, dotwork shading, and modern minimalist geometry. The defining quality is precision — geometric work either reads as crisp and considered, or it does not read at all.
Subtypes we do
- Mandalas — circular, radially-symmetric patterns. Can be tiny (palm) or huge (full back).
- Sacred geometry — Flower of Life, Metatron Cube, Sri Yantra, Platonic solids.
- Linework geometry — minimalist line-only compositions, often combined with fine line illustration.
- Dotwork geometry — geometry rendered partially or fully in pointillist dots, often combined with mandalas.
- Bio-geometric / ornamental fusion — geometric framework filled with organic ornamental detail.
What geometric is good for
- Pieces designed to wrap a body part (forearm bands, shoulder caps, calf wraps).
- Symmetrical compositions on chest, back and sternum.
- Designs that benefit from a long lifespan — clean geometry ages exceptionally well.
- Cover-ups that need a strong, structural overlay.
What geometric is not good for
- Designs with photo-real subjects in the centre — switch to realism or a hybrid.
- Very small pieces with intricate geometry — under 5cm, the line spacing will close up during healing.
How we approach geometric at Inkspace
- Stencil + freehand hybrid. We stencil the major structure, then draw the finer geometry freehand on the skin so it follows your actual anatomy.
- Symmetry check. Every geometric piece is checked from three angles in the mirror before any ink touches skin.
- Slow, controlled linework. Geometric work is single-pass — there is no second chance on a line.
- Optional dotwork pass. Dotwork shading is added in a second session after linework heals.
Placement and longevity
Geometric ages better than almost any other style. Properly executed line geometry stays sharp for 10–15 years before needing refinement. Best placements: forearm, calf, shoulder cap, upper back, sternum.
Healing
Healing is similar to fine line — 7–10 days surface, 3–4 weeks full. Dotwork shading adds 2–3 extra days of peeling. Full aftercare.
