The honest way to think about tattoo pricing in Delhi

The most common question we get on WhatsApp is some version of "how much will this cost?", often with a reference photo attached. The honest answer — the one good studios across Delhi will all agree with — is that a tattoo is not priced like a printed t-shirt. It is priced like a custom illustration that has to be drawn cleanly, on skin, in one shot, with no eraser. Two tattoos that look the same size on a phone screen can take very different amounts of time to do well.

At Inkspace, every Senior Artist works from one clear pricing model. Depending on the piece, we quote in one of three ways: by square inch, by the hour, or per session. The floor for any tattoo is ₹2,000.

The Inkspace minimum: ₹2,000

Our studio minimum is ₹2,000. That isn't a "starting price" advertised to get you in — it is the actual floor for any piece, even a tiny one. The reason is unglamorous: setting up a sterile station, opening single-use needles and grips, draping the chair, drawing and approving a stencil, photographing the piece, and giving you a proper aftercare brief all take roughly the same time whether the tattoo is the size of a coin or a fist.

When you see ₹500 or ₹999 "minimums" anywhere in Delhi, you are almost certainly looking at one of three things: reused supplies, a price meant only for printed flash, or a hook to sell you a much bigger piece once you arrive. None of those compromise the studio — they compromise you.

Square-inch pricing: ₹2,000 first, ₹1,000 each additional

Most small to medium custom pieces are quoted by size. The first square inch is ₹2,000. Every additional square inch is ₹1,000. The maths stays simple all the way up:

  • 1 sq in = ₹2,000
  • 2 sq in = ₹3,000
  • 3 sq in = ₹4,000
  • 4 sq in = ₹5,000
  • 5 sq in = ₹6,000
  • 10 sq in = ₹11,000

The same logic continues at every size. Small fine line, script, symbolic and single-needle pieces almost always fall inside this model.

Hourly pricing: ₹3,000 per hour

Some pieces are better quoted by time than by size. We charge ₹3,000 per hour for:

  • Large tattoos
  • Realism
  • Sleeves and half-sleeves
  • Cover-ups
  • Highly detailed custom work

Hourly is fairer than square-inch pricing here because two pieces the same size can take very different amounts of time — a photorealistic portrait and a bold blackwork piece of identical dimensions are simply not the same job.

Session pricing: ₹15,000 per session

Very large projects are quoted per sitting at ₹15,000 per session. A session is used when a tattoo cannot reasonably be completed in a single visit — full sleeves, back pieces, chest panels, and other multi-sitting commissions. Your artist confirms the recommended number of sessions during the consultation, and you pay session by session as the piece progresses.

How cover-ups are priced

A cover-up is design plus problem-solving. The existing piece dictates what is and isn't possible, and the artist has to design around its darkest points — which usually means a bigger, denser, more colour-saturated new piece. Cover-ups are quoted hourly at ₹3,000/hr, or per session at ₹15,000, depending on size and complexity.

We do not quote cover-ups over WhatsApp. The free consultation is the entire point — a clear, honest look at the skin so we can tell you whether we can cover it, lighten it first, or rework it. If we can't deliver a result we'd be proud of, we'll say so.

Which model will apply to my tattoo?

Every tattoo is different. During your consultation with Chetan or another Inkspace Senior Artist, we will recommend whether your tattoo is best priced by square inch, hourly rate, or session rate — and explain why. There are no separate "premium artist" markups; every Senior Artist works from this same pricing model.

What's included in every quote

  • The consultation (in-person or video).
  • Custom design and stencil work.
  • All single-use needles, grips, cartridges, and drapes.
  • Vegan, EU-compliant inks.
  • The work itself.
  • A small tube of aftercare ointment and a written healing protocol.
  • One touch-up within 60 days, if needed, for Inkspace work.

GST is shown separately on the invoice. We do not charge separately for "premium" needles or "imported" inks — every client is tattooed with the same supplies.

Deposits, rescheduling and refunds

A ₹2,000 deposit secures the booking and is fully adjusted against the final cost on the day. It compensates the artist for the design time spent on your piece before you arrive. Deposits transfer once for free if you reschedule with at least 48 hours' notice; same-day cancellations or no-shows forfeit the deposit. We document this in writing at booking — there are no surprises.

Red flags when comparing tattoo prices in Delhi

  • Quotes given without ever seeing the body part the tattoo will sit on.
  • Studio minimums under ₹2,000 — physically impossible to sustain at a hygienic standard.
  • "Sale" or "deal of the day" pricing on custom work.
  • No portfolio of healed photos (only fresh, just-finished shots).
  • Resistance to a free consultation.
  • Cash-only with no invoice.

How to get an honest quote

The fastest route to a real number is a 15-minute free consultation — in-person at the studio in Hauz Khas Village or over a video call. You can also request a booking directly with reference images; an artist will reply within 24 hours with a budget range, recommended session count, and the next available date.

For pre-built ideas, our portfolio is grouped by style and indicative size — every published piece has its real-world price range listed in the consultation conversation.

Already healed something elsewhere?

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Tattoo pricing questions, answered

What is the minimum tattoo price at Inkspace?

₹2,000. That is the floor for any tattoo at Inkspace, no matter how small — it covers sterile single-use setup, the stencil, the work itself and aftercare guidance.

How are tattoos priced at Inkspace?

Every tattoo is different. Depending on the piece, we quote in one of three ways: by square inch, by the hour, or per session. Your artist recommends the fairest model during the free consultation.

How does square-inch pricing work?

The first square inch is ₹2,000. Every additional square inch is ₹1,000. So 1 sq in = ₹2,000, 2 sq in = ₹3,000, 3 sq in = ₹4,000, 4 sq in = ₹5,000, and so on. Small to medium custom pieces are usually quoted this way.

When is hourly pricing used?

₹3,000 per hour. We use hourly pricing for larger or highly detailed tattoos — realism, sleeves, cover-ups, and dense custom work — where estimating by size alone isn't practical.

When is session pricing used?

₹15,000 per session. Session pricing is used for very large projects that can't reasonably be completed in a single visit — full sleeves, back pieces, and other multi-sitting commissions.

How much does a small tattoo cost in Delhi?

Small pieces are quoted by square inch and start at the ₹2,000 studio minimum. A 2 sq in piece is ₹3,000, a 3 sq in piece is ₹4,000, and so on — ₹2,000 for the first square inch, ₹1,000 for each additional.

How much does a sleeve or half-sleeve tattoo cost?

Sleeves are quoted per session at ₹15,000 per sitting, or hourly at ₹3,000 per hour — whichever fits the design best. Your artist confirms the model and total session count during the consultation.

How are cover-up tattoos priced?

Cover-ups are quoted hourly at ₹3,000 per hour or per session at ₹15,000, depending on size and complexity. Cover-up consultations are free; we only lock a quote after physically assessing the existing piece.

Do I pay a deposit to book a tattoo at Inkspace?

Yes. We take a ₹2,000 deposit at booking, which is fully adjusted against your final tattoo cost on the day. It locks the artist's calendar and covers the custom drawing time. Transferable once if you reschedule with at least 48 hours' notice.

Is GST included in the price?

Quoted prices are exclusive of GST. The 18% tax is shown separately on the final invoice, so the number your artist quotes is the artist's fee — no surprises at checkout.

How much does a tattoo touch-up cost?

Resident-artist work gets one free touch-up within 60 days if the piece has healed and genuinely needs it. Touch-ups outside that window, or on work done elsewhere, are billed at our standard hourly rate of ₹3,000 per hour, with a one-hour minimum.

Is custom design charged separately?

No. Custom design and stencil work are included in the tattoo price for every piece — the quoted rate (square inch, hourly, or session) already covers the drawing time.
