What lettering tattoos are
Lettering tattoos cover everything from a single name in script to multi-line quotes, signatures, dates in Roman numerals, hand-lettered phrases, and full calligraphic compositions. We do not use stock fonts. Every lettering tattoo at Inkspace is hand-drawn for the specific word, the specific placement, and the specific person.
What lettering is good for
- Names — partner, child, parent, grandparent.
- Dates — birthdays, anniversaries, milestone days.
- Signatures — yours, or a meaningful loved person signature.
- Short quotes from books, songs, scripture, or your own writing.
- Single-word manifestos and intentions.
What lettering is not good for
- Text smaller than 5mm in cap height — guaranteed blur within 18 months.
- Very long passages that need to be readable from distance — better as a typed printable than a tattoo.
- Fonts copied from the internet — they almost always look generic on skin.
How we approach lettering at Inkspace
- Words and feeling. We start with the exact words and a few adjectives — formal, soft, sharp, romantic, brutal.
- Three custom drafts. We send three hand-drawn drafts in different calligraphic directions.
- Refinement. You pick one and we refine — letter spacing, ascender height, descender weight.
- Stencil on skin. Placement and angle are checked in the mirror multiple times before we commit.
- Single-pass execution. Lettering is executed single-pass with a fine liner — no second chances.
Placement and longevity
Lettering ages best on the inner forearm, ribs, upper arm, back of the calf, and along the collarbone. Wrist and finger lettering blur faster — we are honest about this.
Healing
Lettering heals like fine line — 5–7 days surface, 3–4 weeks fully. Aftercare.
